As per Devi Puran It is said that at the beginning of creation, a three-eyed woman was born. We know her as Adyashakti. Feeling very lonely in the dark world, Mother Adyashakti felt a desire for creation. But creation was impossible without a male. So, using the dirt from her special organs, she created a three-headed man. He is known to us as Brahma or Shri Shri Brahmadev. After Brahma’s birth, Mother Adyashakti expressed her desire to him, mentioning the creation of the world. But upon hearing the story of his own birth, Brahma refused to fulfill her wish, saying, “You are my mother, so it is impossible for me to fulfill this wish of yours.” Enraged by Brahma’s comment, Mother Adyashakti reduced Brahma to ashes with her third eye.
Some time later, in the same way, Mother Adyashakti created Vishnu or Narayan. When Mother Adyashakti expressed her desire for creation to Shri Shri Vishnu, along with the story of his own birth, Vishnu gave the same answer. Mother Adyashakti also reduced him to ashes with her third eye. Now, the Mother became deeply engrossed in thought and became still. But the desire for creation kept arising in her mind. She kept thinking about how it would be possible to create this world and who would be the greatest in it.
After some time, Mother Adyashakti decided to create a third and final male and that he would create the world. If she failed again, meaning if he also refused to create, the Mother would once again merge into that great darkness. Finally, with a calm and composed mind, she gave birth to the third man, Devadidev Shri Shri Maheshwar (Shiva). After his birth, Devadidev Maheshwar or Shiva saw Mother Adyashakti deep in thought. Curious, Shiva asked the Mother the reason for her worry. He also wanted to know about his own birth. Overcoming her stillness, Mother Adyashakti, in a calm and steady voice, recounted not only the story of his birth but also the story of his two elder brothers, Brahma and Vishnu, and their fate due to their refusal to fulfill her wish. The Mother also said that if her wish was not fulfilled and creation did not happen, she would reduce Maheshwar or Shiva to ashes with her third eye and once again merge into that great darkness.
But Maheshwar was very intelligent. He said, “I agree to fulfill your wish, but I have a few conditions. You must fulfill them.” The Mother asked, “What are the conditions?” In response, Maheshwar said, “I have three conditions.
- First, you must give me that third eye with which you reduced my two elder brothers to ashes, and you must also inform me about its use and application.
- Since you have created me in this form, it is impossible for me to engage in a relationship with you to create, as this form is that of my mother. But if you change this form and come in another, there will be no obstacle to fulfilling your wish, and creation will also be possible.
- You must restore life to my two elder brothers, Brahma and Vishnu. Only then will I fulfill all your wishes.”
Mother Adyashakti agreed to Maheshwar’s or Shiva’s conditions and restored life to the bodies of Brahma and Vishnu. Brahma and Vishnu awoke. Maheshwar received the third eye and the power to use almost all of Adyashakti’s powers. Shri Shri Brahma became engrossed in creation. Shri Shri Vishnu took on the responsibility of human welfare and protection. And Shri Shri Maheshwar or Devadidev Mahadev, that is, Shiva, took on all responsibilities including power, creation, and penance.
After this, those who were born at an auspicious time lived in heaven as gods and goddesses, and those who were born at an inauspicious time took their place on Earth or in the mortal world as demons or asuras. Even today, those who are born at an auspicious time are non-violent, religious, honest, sincere, and always engaged in good deeds, bringing fame to their lineage and society. But most of those who are born at an inauspicious time have malice, impiety, deception, dishonesty, and various kinds of antisocial behavior in their minds. They also engage in antisocial activities, polluting the name of their lineage and society. They never respect women; women are merely objects of enjoyment for them. They repeatedly forget that the woman they are now disrespecting, dishonoring, and treating as an object of enjoyment was once the one who gave birth to them. A woman is sometimes a mother, sometimes a sister, sometimes a daughter, sometimes a friend, and sometimes a wife. The person who properly respects a woman is never deprived of worldly happiness and no kind of danger can easily touch him. In some way or another, the female power protects him. There are many such examples in the Puranas. Whenever any asura or demon attacked heaven with a wicked intention to gain worldly happiness or the pleasure of heaven, Shri Shri Maa Adyashakti immediately appeared and destroyed the enemy, protecting the honor of the gods.
Even today, if a person remembers the Mother with a single mind when in danger, she will surely protect him. The Mother gives all worldly happiness to her devotees. But how many people know how to call her? It is true that we worship the Mother with great pomp, but how many of us succeed?
Let us learn the correct method to awaken the Mother during the upcoming Sharadiya Devi Paksha Navratri Puja. I am sure that if this puja is performed with the correct rules and during the right time, any person will attain salvation, there is no doubt about it. It should be remembered that just as your meal does not satisfy another’s hunger, there is no certainty that you will receive any result if someone else performs the puja for you. So, perform your puja yourself. Remember, the six essentials for puja are reverence, devotion, faith, sincerity, purity, and single-mindedness. And if you can follow the rules, dates, and mantras that I am mentioning, you will surely succeed; there is no doubt about that either. For special needs, you can take the help of an honest Brahmin or a Brahmin’s wife on the first and last days. However, you will complete the puja ceremony yourself.
Shri Shri Maa Adyashakti had promised Shiva that she would be born nine times in nine forms and unite with Devadidev Mahadev or Maheshwar, that is, Shiva. According to that promise, Shri Shri Maa Adyashakti was born nine times in nine forms and married Shiva each time. Today, in this autumn of 2025, we will discuss the dates, mantras, and puja methods for worshiping these nine forms of Devi Durga to please the Mother, and what kind of results can be obtained by worshiping each form of the Mother. This means, how to get “guaranteed peace and prosperity through the worship of Navadurga”.
In the Hindi-speaking belt of India, this puja is prevalent in almost all provinces and districts. There, it is celebrated with great pomp twice a year, in autumn and spring. Of course, this puja is now also celebrated in West and East Bengal. Housewifes, in particular, perform this puja. It is also true that Indians who live abroad also celebrate this puja with great pomp in their homes. Many people from abroad have requested that I mention the rules and dates for this puja. However, it should be remembered that the time, that is, the time zones, are determined differently for different places based on latitude and longitude. So, I request those who are watching not to match the time of your puja place with the time in Kolkata. You can get the specific time for your puja place by making a phone call and finding out where you will be performing the puja.
Those who have taken a diksha (initiation) from me are all aware of the puja method. This is because I first teach my disciples the puja method. For those who are not my disciples and have no idea about the puja method, I am telling you this.
First, let’s learn the rules and ingredients for the puja:
N.B. – Do not say anything during worship, because talking at that time, spit from the mouth and the flowers of worship can fall on the fruits.
(a) First, achaman (purification of mouth, water, flowers, body, seat, body-binding, and direction-binding, etc.). (b) Panchapallav (five types of leaves), i.e., leaves of the banyan, fig, mango, jackfruit, and Bakul trees. Some people think that a mango leaf with five leaves is Panchapallav, but no, this idea is wrong. It should be remembered that each leaf should have nine unblemished leaves, and at the time of puja, a red vermilion dot mixed with mustard oil should be applied with the ring finger in the middle of each leaf, while chanting “Hreem” in your mind, on the side where the sun’s light falls. (c) If you can place nine pitchers for the nine forms of Navadurga, it is very good, but it may not be possible for everyone. So, on the first day, a pitcher should be placed in the middle of the seat, as shown in the picture, i.e., in the center of the circle where “Hreem” and “Siddhidatri” are written, and the puja should be started. Therefore, I am mentioning only one pitcher. (d) A triangle should be drawn with vermilion on the middle of the pitcher, i.e., on the belly of the pitcher, with the ring finger, and “Hreem” should be written in the middle of it, as shown in the picture. (e) A seat like a rangoli should be drawn on a white paper or a clean place, and an Ashtadal Padm (eight-petaled lotus) should be drawn inside it. The names of the nine forms of Durga should be written on each petal, and the name of Siddhidatri should be written in the middle, just below “Hreem,” exactly as written in the picture. (f) In the middle of the seat, i.e., on the place where “Hreem” and “Siddhidatri” are written, place Ganga or sacred soil, small flowers (marigold or impatiens flowers will do), nine blades of nine-leaved durba grass, and five types of grains. The Ganga or sacred water, which was brought in a pitcher on the first day, should be used to establish the pitcher marked with “Hreem” while chanting the names of the nine forms of Durga in your mind and invoking them. I will tell you about the date and time of fetching the water a little later. It is very good if you take the help of an honest Brahmin or a Brahmin’s wife, but remember to place the pitcher with your own hands and invoke the Mother in your mind, saying, “O Manava Durga, I do not know any of your puja rules and regulations. I am trying to complete your puja with my reverence, devotion, faith, sincerity, purity, and single-mindedness. Please reside in this pitcher, accept my puja, and fulfill all my wishes.” (g) Every day, decorate the pitcher with new garlands of hibiscus flowers. You can also use lotus flowers if possible. But on the ninth or last night, you must place eight lotus flowers or eight red hibiscus flowers on the eight petals bearing the Mother’s names while chanting her mantra, and start the puja of the last night by placing one lotus or red hibiscus flower in the middle, where “Hreem” and “Siddhidatri” are written. (h) Offer fruits, sweets, prasad, and water to the best of your ability and start the puja of the nine forms of Shri Shri Maa Adyashakti. I am repeating again: you can take the help of an honest Brahmin or a Brahmin’s wife on the first and last days. If necessary, you can come to me, and I will explain the puja method to you. (i) Remember that no puja without Sankalpa (vow) is ever successful. So, you must perform Sankalpa every day before the puja. Sankalpa is not a difficult matter. In the smaller of the two kusas (small cups), place the water brought in the pitcher on the first day, a haritaki fruit, five types of grains, agaru, sandalwood, small marigold or impatiens flowers, and one red hibiscus flower. With your ring finger, touch the haritaki and remember the form of the Mother you are worshiping. While chanting her name in your mind, express your wishes for your family’s income, progress, health, etc. Many people say that one should never ask for anything from the Mother. But you should ask those who say this to explain the meaning of Sankalpa in Bengali. Then you will understand why Sankalpa is performed and what its meaning is.
Time and Date for Fetching Water:
It should be remembered that you must fetch water from the Ganga or any other sacred water body in one ghora (a type of pitcher) or kalasi (a type of pitcher) on Monday, September 22, 2025, between 4:00 AM to 6:50 AM. This water will be used for the Mother’s nine-day puja. So, please take a slightly larger ghora or kalasi. If necessary, you can fetch two or three ghoras or kalasis of water. It is not harmful if you have leftover water, but it is not right to fetch water a second time if you run short. It should also be remembered that you must maintain a complete vegetarian diet and observe celibacy for these nine days. It is very good if the worshipper sleeps in the same place where the pitcher is placed. In many cases, it has been seen that the Mother has given darshan (a divine vision) to the worshipper or given instructions in a dream at night. Remember, if you lie about seeing a dream in the name of the Mother, you will commit a great sin, and you may even get its results immediately. So, please do not lie about the Mother. I earnestly request every man on Earth to respect every woman as a Mother during these nine days. You will undoubtedly get various good results from this.
The Nine Forms of Navadurga
1. Shailputri

The first form of Navadurga is Shailputri. In her previous birth, she was Sati, the daughter of Prajapati Daksha. She married Devadidev Mahadev or Shiva against her father’s wishes by placing a garland around his neck. After this, in a great yagna ceremony, King Daksha invited all the gods and goddesses but did not send any news to his daughter Sati and son-in-law Devadidev Mahadev or Shiva. When Mother Sati asked for Shiva’s permission to attend her father’s yagna ceremony, Shiva did not agree, but Mother Sati forced Shiva to give her permission. If I write about that here, the article will become very long. So, I will definitely mention the Mother’s deeds to you later. Anyway, upon arriving at the yagna site and hearing her husband being slandered by her father, Mother Sati was heartbroken and gave her life in Daksha’s yagna fire. I hope everyone knows what happened next. In her next birth, Mother Sati was born as the daughter of King Himavan, and her name became Shailputri.
She is seated on a bull (Vrishabha), is two-armed, holds a trident in her right hand, and a lotus in her left. Shri Shri Maa Shailputri is the repository of infinite power, fulfilling all the wishes of the sadhak’s past life.
- Puja Date and Time: Monday, September 22, 2025, between 6:18 PM to 9:56 PM.

- First, you should eat the prasad yourself and then give it to a Kumari (a young, unmarried girl). After she eats, if possible, you should prostrate before her or touch her right hand to your head, treating her as the Mother, and express your wishes in your mind. And you must say, “O Mother, if there has been any mistake or error in this puja, please forgive me as your child.”
2. Brahmacharini

The second form of Navadurga is Mother Shri Shri Brahmacharini. It is said that the relationship between husband and wife is one of many lifetimes. After being born as the daughter of King Himavan, Mother Sati performed severe penance to regain Devadidev Mahadev or Shiva as her husband.
She is two-armed and full of blazing light. Mother Brahmacharini stands upright, holding a japa mala (rosary) in her right hand and a kamandalu (water pot) in her left. If you can please the Mother by worshiping this form on the second night of Navratri, the sadhak’s wishes are fulfilled by the Mother’s grace, and women get their desired husband. So, the worship of this form of the Mother is very important for women. However, it is also true that if a woman is unable to perform the complete puja, i.e., the nine forms of Navadurga, she can still get her wishes fulfilled by being present at the puja of Mother Shri Shri Brahmacharini, participating in this puja, and pleasing the Mother.

And if a wife’s husband is attached to another woman, she can plead with the Mother in front of her, and no third person will be able to come between the husband and wife. Men will also get the same result; there is no doubt about it.
3. Chandraghanta

The third form of Navadurga is Mother Shri Shri Chandraghanta. Her face and head are like a crescent moon in the shape of a bell. She is seated on a tiger and is adorned with various weapons. Her complexion is as bright as raw yellow or pure gold.
On the third night of Navratri, by pleasing the Mother by worshiping this form, the sadhak is freed from all obstacles, enemies are destroyed, and all kinds of happiness are obtained. Her body is as radiant as the sun, and the energy emanating from her body is transmitted to every living being in the universe. The goddess is eight-armed and holds a mace, discus, lotus, kamandalu, arrow, bow, a pitcher full of nectar, and a rosary that grants sidhhis. She is seated on a tiger. During the puja of this form of the Mother, it is essential to offer fried or curried pumpkin as her prasad, as it is the Mother’s favorite food, and she is extremely pleased with it. During the puja of Mother Shri Shri Kushmanda on the fourth night of Navratri, if flowers, durba grass, sandalwood, and cooked rice are offered to the best of one’s ability, the Mother is extremely pleased and blesses the sadhak or sadhika with the destruction of diseases and sorrows, as well as an increase in fame and income.

5. Skandamata

The puja of Mother Shri Shri Skandamata is performed on the fifth night of Navratri. This is the fifth form of Navadurga. The worship of Shri Shri Maa Durga’s son Kartikeya is essential before this puja. By pleasing the Mother in this puja, a childless or heirless person gets a son. 6. Katyayani

Maharishi Katya’s son, Rishi Katyayan, pleased Shri Shri Maa Bhagavati with much penance and got her as his daughter. So, the name of this form of the Mother is Katyayani. This is the sixth form of Navadurga. For the purpose of restoring heaven and destroying Mahishasura or Ghor Asura, Devi Katyayani became very powerful by receiving the energy from Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheshwar. Devi Katyayani is as radiant as raw yellow or pure gold, seated on a lion, and is four-armed. Her two right hands are in the Abhayamudra (granting fearlessness) and Varadamudra (granting boons), and her two left hands hold a sword and a lotus, respectively. On the sixth night of Navratri, by worshiping Mother Shri Shri Katyayani with reverence, devotion, faith, sincerity, purity, and single-mindedness, the sadhak or sadhika can get rid of diseases, sorrows, obstacles, and fear, and can acquire miraculous powers. According to the Puranas, Devadidev Mahadev or Shiva himself attained siddhi (perfection) by the grace of the goddess and became Ardhanarishwar (half male, half female) because of her favor. Here, the goddess is seated on a tiger, is eight-armed, and is adorned with a conch, lotus, mace, discus, sword, trident, and bow-arrow. But she is in the Abhayamudra. - Prayer: “O Mother, I am sure that you are pleased with the puja I have performed for the last nine nights, and you have blessed me. You have accepted my offered prasad and reverence. O Mother, I am ignorant, but I have completed your puja ceremony with a pure body, mind, and clothes, with my reverence, devotion, sincerity, purity, faith, and single-mindedness. Still, if there has been any mistake or error, please forgive me. O Mother, grant me all siddhi.”
- The distribution of prasad or bhog will be the same as on the first night. But after the puja on the ninth or last night, you can offer the Mother’s prasad or bhog to nine young girls (under the age of 11) and, if possible, prostrate by touching their feet, treating them as the Mother, or prostrate in your mind after giving them gifts to the best of your ability. If you cannot find nine girls on that night, you can also perform the puja for one young girl. However, if you have reverence, devotion, and faith in the Mother, nine young girls will come to you at the right time.
- Remember, just as your meal does not satisfy another’s hunger, a puja performed by someone else will not be effective for your karma. If necessary, you can take the help of an honest and correct Vipra or Brahmin or a Brahmin’s wife on the first and last days.
- The next day, on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, the Dashami tithi will start at 2:36 PM. After that, after applying vermilion on the pitcher, treating it as the Mother, and then applying vermilion to each other’s foreheads, you should immerse the pitcher and flowers in a sacred water body or the Ganga after 4:00 PM on Wednesday, October 1, 2025. You should then invite the Mother for the next year and return home. The remaining rituals will be the same as other pujas.
- Those who perform Kojagori Lakshmi Puja after Durga Puja should not forget to complete the Kojagori Lakshmi Puja ceremony between 11:24 AM on Monday, October 6, 2025, to 9:32 AM on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
- I pray to the Mata Sri Sri Durga that the entire world be filled with peace and prosperity. I send my advance greetings and Subho Sharadiya Subhchha to my dear readers, along with a heart full of love.
